THE WEEKEND PREVIEW…

MAJOR GOLF WEEKEND… US OPEN!!!

Winged Foot Golf Club, Mamaroneck New York sets the stage for the 120th US OPEN this week. The West course Measuring 6,750 yards in length, this Par 72 course will be testing its week for all that competes to land this Major prize.

The main features of the New York course are the greens which all but a couple slope from back to front with vast tilts, so every player’s approach shot to the green is absolutely crucial in where they place it.

So, for players this week to be in with a chance of scoring well you need to give yourself every chance and that is where tee to green comes into play but I do not expect big scores and no one should really in a Golfing Major, as courses are always set up as a true test of a competitors ability, anyone hitting double figures under par this week will be more than worthy of lifting the title.

Surely the main protagonists with the likes of Mcllroy, Thomas, Johnson, and Rahm will be up there challenging for Major honors and you cannot leave out Collin Morikawa who was so impressive landing the USPGA, but maybe it’s time look a bit further afield and turn to the stats to throw up a surprise and that surprise could come in the shape of Patrick Reed looking to add to his Master’s win in 2018.

Reed whilst not being everyone’s cup of tea with his outspoken attitude at times does strike the ball consistently well especially with his approach iron play and does know how to grind a round out and when on form it flows with Reed.

AUSSIES END ENG ODI 4 YEAR UNBEATEN RUN…

England 302-7 (50 overs): Bairstow 112, Billings 57, Zampa 3-51

Australia 305-7 (49.4 overs): Maxwell 108, Carey 106, Woakes 2-46

England ODI four-year series unbeaten record came to an end by old foes Australian on Wednesday evening with the Aussies winning the series 2-1, and what a nail biter it was as it went down to the last over with Australia needing 10 runs from the final 6 balls.

The first ball faced by Mitchell Starc in that final over was smashed for six over the boundary and after that was struck England desperately needed a couple of dot balls to stand any chance, but they did not come and Australia pulled themselves over the line to victory.

Speaking after the match England Captain Eion Morgan reacted to the defeat…

“Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell played outstandingly well. It’s always an interesting challenge, one that the bowlers are always up for. The bowlers never gave up.

“Sometimes when you’re beaten by the better side you’ve just got to put your hand up and today was one of those games.”

Australia captain Aaron Finch said“It was an incredible game of cricket, action aplenty.”

“We thought we were in trouble, absolutely. Maxi is in the team to do a specific role, to try to swing the momentum. He dragged it back. That partnership was fantastic. I’m really proud of both of them.”

“I don’t think there are many bowlers in the world who can hang with him when he’s having one of those days.”

SELECTION… BAHRAIN PRIDE

Solid start to his career when turning over Fivethousandtoone in a maiden at Windsor and they look horns again today. But the selection went on from that maiden win to land a class 1 Listed event at Ripon recently and BAHRAIN PRIDE can continue that progressive form.
