Run since 2005, the BETFAIR CHASE has offered up some of the best recent staying chasers to tack to the track.
Raced over 3m 1f at Haydock which is a left-handed track the course places its emphasis on stamina, leading itself to prominent ridden runners its fences are somewhat more lenient than other jumps courses.
Most wins in the race come from Legendary Chaser KAUTO STAR with four wins in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2009, winning most Jockey Ruby Walsh with four wins three of them with Kauto Star and one with Silviniaco Conti in 2012, leading trainer Paul Nicholls has had a stranglehold on the race with six winners.
But in recent years Colin Tizzard has pushed Nicholls all the way for most wins currently with four 1st and last year’s winner of the Betfair ChaseLOSTINTRANSLATION will look to make it back-to-back wins in a race that does lend itself to repeats.
We have not seen LOSTINTRANSLATION for some 253 days and he will bid to land the 1st prize of the £90k fund as he will come into this race in great order running a cracking 3rd in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but the long layoff impact can be said for two more of the main trio that heads the market in a small but select field for the Betfair Chase.
Two others that will head a tight market will be CLAN DES OBAUX and BRISTOL DE MAI who like LOSTINTRANSLATION has not been seen since the Cheltenham Gold Cup when running behind LOSTINTRANSLATION in 8th and 9th respectively.
It’s disappointing that there are only 5 runners that line up in this year’s renewal, but the quality is there to see from some of the best-staying chasers in this division,  it promises to be a real battle right to the line, so what this race may lack in depth sure make up for it in class.
