Royal Ascot Day Three – BigFoot’s Tips…GOLD CUP DAY!!

Day three of the Royal meeting.. And its GOLD CUP DAY!!!

Steeped in history producing legends of the game this race has seen the likes of YEATS a four-time winner of this, and most recently STRADIVARIUS who looks to take centre stage and make it three Gold Cups for Gosden and Dettori.

Day Two Review
The rain that was forecast didn’t materialise and it was a disappointing start to the day as OUZO never looked like landing a blow as soon as the gates opened.

A big BOOOOMMM!! Landed in the days second race as RUSSIAN EMPEROR advised 10/30 came with a strong run on the outside of the Queens runner FIRST RECEIVER and jockey Ryan Moore proved why he is still at the top table of jockeys timing the run to perfection. LORD NORTH took the big one of the day in the Prince of Wales Stakes and won it well, as JAPAN disappointed (NAP) , looking slightly out of condition in the preliminary’s and surely needed the run. BELL ROCK finished 6th to pick up some place money advised 7/1 for the punters with bookies offering 6 and 7 places. COLLIDE just finished out of the places finding the pace of the race too stiff.
So in the first two days of the Royal meeting we have managed 3 winners and 3 places which is pretty good going in the first two days , so let’s see if we can continue that good form with today’s selections.

DAY THREE SELECTIONS

Today’s forecast…. Light showers throughout the day

It doesn’t get any easier today and like the openers for the last two days, this is a trappy affair with lots in with chances and 16 runners going to post. Carrying a 5lb penalty for his last time out success makes life a little harder for GLOBAL STORM but he won’t go down without a fight, coming with a smooth run from off the pace, with bags of speed last time, then having to fight out the finish showed there is further improvement to come from this gelding.

Selection… GLOBAL STORM e/w 6/1 novibet

SIR DRAGONET boasts some good form, including a good fifth in last year’s Derby but has thrown the odd performance that has left punters puzzled, so today I am keen to take him on.

ALOE VERA at a big price could run a big race having tasted listed success last time out at Goodwood but that was over a year ago now and after a long layoff she may be in need of that all-important run. The same could be said after a break of 243 days for FOX TAIL (nap) who is a very smart performer and with course form in the book you cannot deny the cracking run he had here in the Champion Stakes plus a smart third in a French group 1 and is taken to land the spoils in yet another big field.

Selection… FOX TAIL (nap) 10/30 betfair

Winner £35,520

Good

There’s just no getting away from KING LEONIDAS who has had two runs now both over the straight 7f at Newmarket and both have been very striking performances. And the prolific team of Gosden and Dettori look sure enough to have yet another smart performer to serve it up at the very top table.

Selection… KING LEONIDAS 11/4 bet365

15:00 Ascot 18 Jun 2020
Chesham Stakes
Listed | Class 1 | 2YO only
Winner £23,680

BATTLEFIELD bred by War front out of the Arc winner Found has pedigree to pay attention to. BRIGHT DEVIL opened up his account at Newmarket making all in soft conditions and is respected. Shamadarl colt MODERN NEWS showed good ability in a good maiden over 6f at Newmarket. But Charlie Fellows FIRST PROPHET showed a smart turn of foot when asked a furlong out over 7f at Newbury 6 days ago and although showed signs of being green and providing this quick turnaround has not taken too much out of him, he is taken to follow up that debut win here.

Selection… FIRST PROPHET e/w 15/2 bet victor

Good

The two-time champion stayer STRADIVARIUS is bidding to make it three Gold cups today and join the immortal list. He will have opposition in terms of many against him stepping up in trip and we may see a new staying talent emerge but you cannot deny the ability of this combination of horse and jockey Dettori. Today he steps back to the trip he excels at having had a good prep run at Newmarket over 1m 1/2 f to blow off the cob webs.

Selection… STRADIVARIUS 4/6 spread ex

Britannia Stakes
Heritage Handicap | Class 2 | 3YO only
Winner £38,814

Another big field handicap where anything could take this but a chance at big odds is taken on DUBAI MIRAGE who caught the eye with a romp to victory on the all-weather at Kempton over a mile. Put up 5lb for that win, 3lb of that is offset by the highly rated claim of Cieren Fallon.

Selection… DUBAI MIRAGE e/w 20/1 coral

John Gosden’s AFRICAN DREAM will be all the rage in the market in the last today, but DECLARED INTEREST built on her 2-year-old season with a win on her reappearance from the front at Chelmsford, over a mile, nine days ago and the Beckett runner looks sure to continue to improve off the back of that run.

Selection… DECLARED INTEREST e/w 10 /1 coral

Good luck, have a great day!!

All the best,

BigFoot
