Day Three Review

Day Three began with a good run from GLOBAL STORM who came home like a train advised e/w 6/1 for each way punters, but it may have been a different story if he had been a little handier towards the pace on the turn in for home. FOX TAL(nap) shot out the gates into a handy position on the inside rail but pulled so hard and keen early on and when the button was pushed and asked for the effort but that early pull took its toll and there was nothing left in the tank. Same can be said for KING LEONIDAS who ran early on with the choke out doing way too much too soon. The tough results kept coming in the 3:00pm as FIRST PROPHET looked to be putting a good run together but when asked, hanging his head to the right & just didn’t find anything.

However how well did STRADIVARIUS run his race to collect his 3rd Gold Cup, turning from home Frankie had it all under him with power and a turn of foot that was pure class romping home to success with a furlong out still on the bridle winning by at least ten lengths and it never looked in doubt. The last of the day gave us another placed run with DECLARED INTEREST finishing 5th advised at 10/1.

Trainer Archie Watson’s saddles four in the opener here today in yet another big filed. A chance is taken on four-time winner MAYSTAR with listed form to his name and dropping back into handicap company and not minding the cut in the ground it ticks a lot of boxes.

It’s been a rush to get these newcomers a prep run in before this meeting and that could play in to the hands of American trainer Wes Ward with FLYING ALETHA but his runner would not of encountered the conditions being soft with its debut win coming over fast ground at Gulfstream. So siding with the filly GOLDEN MELODY having softer conditions under foot on her debut win looks the progressive type having stretched away well when the gap came in the hands of James Doyle who is in fine form.

Selection… GOLDEN MELODY e/w 5/1 coral

Two placed efforts for the A P O’Brien LIPIZZANNER but it was an impressive turn of foot when quickened last out and with the drop in trip to suit and gaining more experience under his belt than many in this field the Ballydoyle team could have a future smart performer in the ranks.

Mud lover MORANDO will relish the soft conditions today, he left everyone in his wake in the Cumberland Lodge Stakes over course and distance back in October, also placed in this race last year he holds a strong card today at a good price.

Pitched in at the deep end last time out at the Breeders Cup meeting SHADN found stepping up to a mile with firm going and a wall of traffic in front not seen to best effect and can be excused that run, with a win in France on the previous start to that on soft in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte the filly looks seriously overpriced today with the favoured 6f ahead.

Cases can be made for few in here, with a field full of promise BERKSHIRE ROCCO (Nap) ran a good race finishing 2nd to Derby favourite ENGLISH KING beaten by two lengths on that day in the trial at Lingfield. If the colt can handle the soft ground which is a not known he should be well and truly in the shake up, come the finish.

WEST END CHARMER returned to action with a win at Newmarket in great fashion, all 12 days ago and will be a big threat to DURSTON who no doubt will head the market for David Simcock, the selection looks very well treated under a penalty and is proven with some cut in the ground.
