Royal Ascot Day Five – BigFoot’s Tips… The final day!!!

Today brings a close to the Royal meeting which had a very different slant on it but it was great to have witnessed some excellent performances so far, and the one that will stay in the memory for a very long time no doubt will be STRADIVARIUS winning his third gold cup in such emphatic fashion on Thursday. The feature races today will be that of the St James’s Palace Stakes where PINATUBO was such a dominate force as a two-year-old saw others catch up with him, now turning three tasting defeat in the 2000 Guineas for the first time. He takes on three of those rivals to come out of that race today along with the progressive PALACE PIER of John Gosden. All eyes will be on SCEPTICAL in the Diamond Jubilee stakes to see if that rags to riches story I touched on in the preview can come true.

Day Four Review

ART POWER blew the field away in the opener on day four as this performance looked like a pattern horse in a handicap race and the money certainly spoke for this before the off, MAYSTAR was a wash with sweat before the off and that put pay to the selections chance, not running a particularly bad race but just never figured. DANDALLA flew home by 5 lengths in the second race of the day to land a touch for the bookies as SETARHE was well backed before the off from 7/1 in to 7/2. After race four we were left thinking it’s just one of those days and at a big meeting like Royal Ascot you are bound to have one after having three good days with selections!!
Nap BERKSHIRE ROCCO came with a good run hung left but never really looked like challenging for the lead a furlong out as SANTIAGO pulled clear to land the spoils, getting quotes now of 10/1 for the Derby. We had to wait till the last for our only placed horse on the day advised e/w at 6/1 WEST END CHARMER taking third trying to make all on the front end.

BLUE MIST does come with a warning as a selection, he does not always find alot in a finish when needed but the drop in trip is a eye catching move from connections and is taken to run a big race today in yet again a wide open affair for the opener.

A P O’brien will have a warm order jolly in the Queen Mary today in the shape of the war front filly MORE BEAUTIFUL and looked a bit special when score on debut at Naas, but keen to take her on we side with another top yard from Ireland in the way of Jessica Harrington DICKIEDOODA who looks sure to progress after getting on the mark in her debut at the Curragh last week.

CREATIVE FORCE is a Dubawi colt related to many winners and just 16 days ago made a impressive track debut at Newmarket, and at a decent price here after that run looks excellent value for this colt that looks sure to progress.

The Rodger Charlton trained QUADRILATERAL looks sure to head the market and was not seen to best effect in the 1000 Guineas and does hold a big threat to her rivals, ALPINE STAR is another to consider as a smart performer for Jessica Harrington but with 306 days off the track may be in need of the run. So the selection for this goes to the American raiderSHARING who 28 days ago made it four in a row and with notable runs in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and remain with plenty of improvement to come.
Selection… SHARING e/w 7/1 coral

You could not see any excuses with the defeat for PINATUBO in the 2000 Guineas and maybe where so dominant as a two-year old turning three as brought many up to his level and has found plenty of competition to come this season. WICHITA who ran second in that race ran well and will no doubt be at the head of the market with PINATUBO and looks sure to run his race under Ryan Moore, A chance is taken on the very smart unbeaten PALACE PIER for John Gosden who is pitched in at a higer level but the way in which his victories came this level is well within his grasp.

Selection… PALACE PIER 9/2 e/w unibet

SCEPTICAL will head the market on this one and its the race I have been waiting for all week to see if that Ascot story comes true. Costing just £2800 as an un raced 3 year-old and developed into the highest rated Irish sprinter when hacking up in a Listed race at Naas, Denis Hogan’s gelding will be the toast of the day should he land Group one success here.

Selection… SCEPTICAL (Nap) 10/30 paddy power

24 runners go to post here in a wide-open heat for the Wokingham, A whole host are likely to give a good account with thw lightly race 5 year-old BIELSA heading the market trained by Kevin Ryan. But the 4 year-old HIGHLAND DRESS arrives here in fine form on the back of two wins at Southwell and Newmarket and is a eye catching runner for Archie Watson.
