GLORIOUS GOODWOOD DAY FIVE…

GLORIOUS GOODWOOD DAY FIVE…

The feature races on the final day of this year’s Glorious Goodwood is the Stewards Cup where 23 runners go to post in a wide-open contest and the  Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes, this will be a true test of stamina today, only four runners going to post it promises to be a very tactical affair. ENBIHAAR looks set to be the warm order favorite for John Gosden and jockey Jim Crowley but will face strong opposition from MANUELA DE VEGA and the Irish raider SNOW.

Day three review…

In the blistering heat on the Sussex Downs on Friday it was tough work for Jockeys and the horses as they tackled the hottest day of the year so far.

Cepheus took the opener on day four with a cool well-timed run from Will Buick, Moomba looked to be the one to take out of the race making eye-catching ground to finish 2nd. Our selection AL QAQAA came with a decent run under Jim Crowley but never followed it through finishing back in 4th.

VALERIA MESSALINA adv e/w broke our hearts when just getting chinned on the line by YOUNG MASTER.

KHALOOSY disappointed favorite backers as colt ran no sort of race and after a stewards inquiry was called and places remained unchanged which I found ridiculous given the events, where Ryan Moore picked up a five-day ban for careless riding, so TILSIT took the race.

PROMOTING, in the form of his life and back up to a mile today took the 2:45 pm with our selection CLIFFS OF CAPRI just not getting the mile but coming home 5th for the place money.

BATTAASH was bidding for fourth consecutive King George Stakes and did not fail to disappoint, smashing the course record he left every other horse in his wake.

The NAP of the day was yet again landed under a strong ride to the line from Tom Marquand with PABLO ESCOBARR doing it in fine style.

Our next runner PEROTTO was a little unlucky not to land the spoils in the 4:20pm as the favorite Zamaani hugged the rail in the closing stages and looked to shut the door on our selection when coming with a run. One for the notebook next time out!!!

VENTURA DIAMOND took the last turning over the odds on favorite Sarsaparilla who could only manage third.

Today’s forecast… DRY, SUNNY highs of 24o

Going report…GOOD TO FIRM, watered overnight

REWAAYAT for Charlie Hills will be warm order after recent back to back wins, but the selection here is the ultra-consistent TREACHEROUS, with one run and one win at the Sussex downs track back in June and having been raised 5lb for his last run winning at Haydock still looks very much on a workable mark.

Selection… TREACHEROUS e/w 10/1

An open handicap here, a chance is taken on INDIANAPOLIS if he can make the step up here in better company and put his best foot forward. Finishing fourth in a blanket finish at Ripon last time out over 1m 2f and the extra 2 furlongs could well play to his strengths in producing a bit more to get his head in front today.

Selection…  INDIANAPOLIS e/w

Fillies’ Group 2 | Class 1 | 3YO plus

Winner £70,888

Slightly disappointing that only three runners go to post for the Lillie Langtry, and it looks like a match up between the Jonh Gosden runner ENBIHAAR and the O’Brien runner SNOW. ENBIHAAR completed a hat trick last term and returned with a lackluster run when she dwelt at the start at Newmarket but is taken to put that run behind her and get back to winning ways.

Selection… ENBIHAAR

With 23 runners going to post here there could be some traffic problems and some hard-luck stories.

A good positive start will be a key factor, ATALANTA’S BOY will be facing his toughest assignment to date today and will be hoping that his course form will stand him in good order along with a low draw, and Jockey Thomas Greatrex takes off a very valuable 3lb off.
