05 Jul Ascot 2018
A fabulous days racing was had at Ascot for the Betfair Ascot Chase Raceday last Saturday. Our On Course team were there enjoying the winter sun and the fabulous views from the stand. Ascot lived up to its reputation as a beautifully manicured and well organised racing venue.
Dominated by Frankie Dettori riding the treble on Without Parole, Calyx and Monarchs Glen. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex presented the trophies to Dettori, Gosden and Without Parole’s American owners John and Tanya Gunther.
The 6-1 shot Blue Point ran out a worthy winner of the King’s Stand Stakes under William Buick, with Battaash second and outside Mabs Cross third. Thursday’s Ladies Day we saw the Gold Cup won by Stadavarius & Frankie Dettori. Alpha Centauri won Friday’s marquee race to give trainer Jessica Harrington her first Group One winner in Britain and her first at Royal Ascot. Merchant Navy won a dramatic Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the final day of Ascot 2018.
Extra security was in place, including 20 sniffer dogs at entrances, after drink and drugs had been blamed for recent violence among racegoers at Ascot and Goodwood.
Next year the Royal procession will appear at 2pm on 18 June and the carriages will roll down the famous Ascot straight … we look forward to seeing you then!
